About rotli
A calm place to think, built on one folder of ordinary files you keep.
rotli is a local-first workspace for notes, tasks, links, and optional AI conversations. Everything lives in one folder you choose, as plain Markdown files, so your work opens anywhere and outlasts any app, including this one. It runs on your Mac, and in your browser with Rotli Web.
Why “rotli”?
rotli is short for Rottnest, the island off Western Australia where quokkas live. Short, quick to say, easy to remember. The workspace is the island, and you are the quokka.
Quokkas are famous for looking like they can’t stop smiling. That is the feeling rotli is built for: a workspace that feels good to be in, so getting things done feels good too.
What rotli believes
Your files are the product.
Notes are plain Markdown in one folder you choose. rotli’s own data is rebuildable, never a second copy of your work, and deleting rotli leaves every file where it was.
Calm over clever.
Nothing asks for your attention. Open it with ⌥Space, write, and put it away; the handful of keys worth learning are the ones you will use every day.
AI is invited in. It does not own the house.
AI is optional. Run a model on your Mac or connect the tools you already use; secure notes never reach a remote model, and no model can edit a note you lock.
Nothing about you to collect.
No account, no analytics, no ads, and no crash uploads. There is no rotli server holding your notes.
